An innovation with global success: the journey of GMT equipment
Gierkink Machine Techniek was founded in 1998 by Michel Gierkink. The company specialises in the maintenance, repair and the sales of forestry machines and wood cutters. In 2010, Gierkink Machine Techniek introduced the GMT035 to the market, a patented invention (EP2515628) that is now sold across the world. As a result of the success of the grapple saw and quick coupler, in 2013 a decision was made to split the company into Gierkink Machine Techniek and Gierkink Machine Service.
Since then, Gierkink Machine Techniek has focused entirely on manufacturing and selling grapple saws, quick couplers and Fly Jibs. To underline the international ambition we have changed our company name into GMT Equipment since January, 2019. In 2024, Kinshofer acquired a majority stake in GMT Equipment. As part of the Kinshofer Group, GMT Equipment continues to develop and sell products in global markets through its distribution channels.

Founding of the company
1998
Gierkink Machine Techniek was founded in 1998 by Michel Gierkink, in the Dutch village of Vragender. The company specialises in the maintenance, repair and the sales of forestry machines and wood cutters.
Introduction GMT035 grapple saw
2010
The first GMT035 grapple saw was introduced in 2010. With the revolutionary and patented valve block that allows all functions to be operated with just two hydraulic supply lines.
Introduction GMT C10 quick coupler
2010
Changing equipment is often a time-consuming job. To change attachments quickly, GMT Equipment developed the GMT C10 quick-coupler system in 2010. A quick coupler with a unique, robust design that is mounted between the rotator and the attachment. Switch within 5 minutes between GMT grapple saw and other attachments with the unique GMT C10 quick-coupler system.
Serial production GMT035 grapple saw
2011
After a successful introduction and further development, the GMT035 grapple saws will be produced in series from 2011.
Introduction GMT050 grapple saw
2015
After the great success of the GMT035, there is a demand for a grapple saw with a larger cutting range. The first GMT050 will be introduced in 2015, a grapple saw that can cut trees with a diameter of 50 cm with a single cut.
Expanding production in Lichtenvoorde
2018
The production site in Vragender soon proved too small for the increasing demand for GMT grapple saws. After several extensions to the existing premises, a hall in Lichtenvoorde was commissioned in 2018 for the assembly of GMT grapple saws.
Introduction Total Tree Control braking system
2020
Introducing the next level grapple saw with Total Tree Control braking system. A unique and patented system that blocks not only the tilt cylinder, but also the movement in all directions in the cardanic suspension.
New premises
2022
A new premises is being built right next to GMT Equipment's headquarters in Vragender. A spacious building in which production, assembly and office will find their place. The building will be commissioned at the end of 2022.
25th Anniversary GMT Equipment
2023
In 2023, the 25th anniversary was celebrated grandly with open days for dealers, customers and interested parties with demonstrations, many machines with a GMT grapple saw and the official opening of the new premises.
Next Generation grapple saws
2025
Introduction of the Next Generation GMT grapple saws. The new generation grapple saws are characterised by a new design, improved hydraulics, stronger hold and a larger saw casing with longer saw bar.
